Motorcycle Hand Signals
1. Right Turn
To signal to others you are going to turn right, simply extend your left arm with your elbow bent upward at a 90-degree angle. You use your left arm with a right turn signal so you can keep your right hand in control of the gas and brakes. This is a great signal to use in a group to ensure everyone’s safety as they’re riding behind you.
2. Left Turn
You also use your left arm with a left turn hand signal. Again, extend your left arm while keeping your arm straight this time and have your palm facing downwards. This signal will again ensure everyone’s safety as they turn behind you.
3. Stop
This hand signal can be awkward but is one of the most important for safety. Similar to the right turn hand signal you will extend your left arm while bending your elbow at a 90-degree angle however, this time bend your elbow downwards and have your palm facing the riders behind you. Although awkward it is a simple hand signal and can assist you to keep your group safe and on the same page while riding.
4. Pull Off
If you find yourself in a serious situation this is the signal you will use to ensure your safety and the safety of the group. It indicates that it is necessary to pull off the road immediately. Point your finger to the left above you and swing your arm over your head to the right. The motorcycle riders behind you will know that this isn’t just for a refreshment stop or a break and that they should pull off to the shoulder or the nearest exit as soon as possible.
